LPX-600 Laser Scanner

The 3D Laser Scanner - LPX-600
The LPX-600 is the most automated 3D scanning system ever produced by Roland DG. With the touch of a button, the LPX-600 samples an object, scans it, and automatically generates a detailed model with a watertight surface. With bundled LPX EZ Studio reverse engineering software, the LPX-600 is an ideal 3D capture solution for all popular CAD/CAM and animation applications.

  •  0.2mm (0.008") scanning resolution
  • 254mm (diameter) by 406mm (height) scanning volume
  • EZ Studio reverse modeling software included
  • Easy, precision 3D scanning at the touch of a button
  • Attractive, compact design for office environment

The LPX-600 can scan objects up to 406mm tall and 254mm in diameter. It uses an advanced non-contact laser sensor to quickly generate precise models with a 0.008 inch scanning resolution. The combination of precision laser optics and motion control within a rigid enclosure lets the LPX-600 produce high quality scans with minimal surface noise.

CAD & CG applications
The LPX-600 allows designers to quickly and easily generate 3D CAD models for a wide variety of CAD and computer graphics applications. The LPX-600 captures complex data for hand-held consumer products, blister package design, hand-sculpted characters for feature animation, and face models for anaplastologists.

Included Software
Compatible with all popular CAD/CAM programs, bundled LPX EZ Studio software streamlines the 3D scan and data editing process. LPX EZ Studio's powerful scan/align/merge function lets engineers generate watertight mesh surface models with the touch of a button. The software supports a wide range of data output formats, including STL, PIX and 3DM. STL files are used by the industry's most popular rapid prototyping systems, including those manufactured by Roland, 3D Systems, Stratasys, Z-Corp and Solidscape.

Optional software (available as an add on or bundled at time of purchase)
Optional Pixform Pro reverse modeling software offers advanced data editing. Pixform Pro can align, merge, fill holes, decimate, remesh, and translate polygon surfaces into NURB surfaces. The software can also merge scans for increased quality, change the shape around curved surfaces, sharpen edges, extend shapes, add thickness and perform Boolean operations on polygon surfaces. It supports a wide range of data output formats including DXF, STL, WRL, 3DM and IGES.

Rotary and Plane Scanning technology

Dual Scan Modes
- Rotary and Plane Scanning Modes offer the versatility to scan an expansive array of objects. In rotary mode, the LPX-600 quickly scans an entire object on its fully integrated rotating table. In plane scanning mode, it scans as many as six different planes to capture side cuts and cavities.

Rotary Scanning - Rotary Scanning Mode is ideal for high-speed scanning of spherical and smooth-surfaced objects. Once the object is placed on the LPX-600's rotating table, the laser beam travels vertically up the rotating object to generate a data file.

Plane Scanning - The Plane Scanning Mode is able to capture complicated angles and side-cuts. The LPX-600's laser beam scans a maximum of six surfaces at right angles. Plane Scanning is ideal for relatively flat, hollow and side-cut objects whose angles would be undetectable using Rotary Scanning Mode.

The LPX-600's Non-Contact Scanning technology; makes fast work of 3D scans. It can auto-rotary scan a 406mm tall object in eight minutes. Scanning restrictions are limited only to the technology itself: glossy, clear or dark-colored objects will not scan effectively unless painted a matt red, white or yellow in order to be "read" by the laser. In the ideal conditions a Repeat accuracy of +/- 0.05mm has been acheived. Where undercuts and cavities lie, repositioning and rescanning allows you to capture those odd areas. With training on the scanning and Pixform software, you can vitually scan anything you can get inside the LPX's working volume of 254mm diameter by 406.4mm high.

Easy to use
With its USB connection and one-button operation, the LPX-600 is ready to use within minutes after opening the box. Once up and running, the 3D laser scanner will save designers hours of manual reverse engineering work. Engineers can capture incredibly detailed surfaces without any special training.
